Addressing Racial Disparities in Cancer Support

The 'Can You C Me?' project collaboration between Macmillan Cancer Support and Croydon BME Forum aims to address racial disparities within cancer support and improve healthcare outcomes for black and ethnic minorities affected by cancer in six South West London boroughs: Croydon, Merton, Sutton, Wandsworth, Richmond, and Kingston.

Our goal is to address racial disparities in cancer support, amplify the voices of marginalised communities, and emphasise the importance of equality in cancer healthcare and support. We aim to engage with key stakeholders, including medical and healthcare staff, community leaders, workers, organisers, advocates, and service providers.

These discussions will help us understand and address health inequalities in cancer care for Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities and support organisations in making a significant impact on cancer and community services. As part of our three-year project, we will hold six cancer conferences, one in each borough. Our first Cancer Conference took place on Wednesday, July 3rd, 2024, in Croydon.

The next conference is scheduled for later this year in Wandsworth on Thursday 28th November.

Giving Black & minority ethnic a voice in Croydon

About the
Croydon BME Forum

Croydon BME Forum is the umbrella organisation for Croydon’s Black and Minority Ethnic voluntary and community sector, engaging people, building capacity, and promoting equality and cohesion. We are a registered charity and company limited by guarantee. We have multiple projects focused on mental health, general health, family support, financial support, and wellbeing.

The Forum was established to maximise the engagement of BME communities in all aspects of living and working in Croydon. We make representations on behalf of Croydon’s black and minority ethnic communities to public sector agencies and other statutory and non-statutory organisations.
